Yarn Pumpkin

September 10, 2012 32 Comments Holly & Nat

I spent the weekend doing some fall decorating…. how about you guys? This early in the season, I like to create small vignettes around my home with little touches of autumn. I love using textiles in my fall decor, and wanted use some of this yummy orange yarn to create a pumpkin.

It looks cozy and kind of rustic… I really like how it turned out! And I am going to show you exactly how I made it 🙂

Supplies needed:
– Yarn of your choice {I used a pretty thick one, because it is easier to cover your surface}
– Hot glue
– Roll of jute twine
– Hurricane glass in a pumpkin-like shape*
*okay, so this exact glass thing may be hard to find! I discovered mine at TJ Maxx on clearance for 70 cents!! It works great because it has a big hole in the top and bottom, making it very simple to wrap with yarn.

I started by tying the end of my yarn through the side of the glass, and knotting it to secure:

Then I just wrapped, and wrapped, and wrapped some more! I secured it with a little hot glue as I went, to make sure it would stay in place as I worked. It only took me about an hour to wrap the entire thing, much quicker than my yarn letters 🙂

Here is what it looked like when I was done wrapping:

To create the “stem” I took a roll of jute twine I had in my craft room, and just slipped it into the center. I like the quirkiness it adds!
That’s it… My yarn pumpkin is finished! I am so happy to have this unique piece of fall decor.

    It’s adorable!!! You’re so creative to think to make a pumpkin out of that glass; I’d never think of that! the twine roll as the stem is so sweet. I hope you and your cute family are doing great Holly! Over here the Halloween movie watching has commenced! I don’t let them watch holiday movies during the rest of the year, just around the holidays. My 7 year old is home sick today and asked if he could start watching Halloween movies, and I gotta admit there’s just something about hearing “A Heffalump Halloween” in the background to get me in the Halloween mode! I’m itching to make a pumpkin now too! 🙂 love & hugs!

    What a great idea, and so creative! Y’all are some crafty gals for sure, and I love seeing all your neat decorating tricks. I’ve been trying to come up with an inexpensive, yet thoughtful and cute gift for my daughter’s teachers, for Halloween. This is IT! I’m wondering, could you fill it with candy, or would that pull too much on the yarn I wonder? I’m excited and can’t wait to try. Thanks for sharing!
