Toddler “Doctor Kit” In a Bag

July 19, 2012 27 Comments Holly & Nat

Happy Thursday, lovely readers! Today I’m sharing an easy and practically free idea to keep your little ones busy. It’s a pretend “Doctor Kit” in a bag that you can put together in minutes using things you probably already have at home!
My daughter is on a Band-Aid kick these days. She keeps finding the boxes of Band-Aids and asking to “doctor” me. I love her imagination! But I don’t love her getting into our medicine cabinet. So I put together this little Doctor Kit for her in literally 5 minutes. Now she has a place for all her supplies and I don’t have to worry about her getting into stuff she shouldn’t.
Here are some ideas of things to put in your Doctor Kit.
  • Band-Aids (I get the cheapest they sell at Walmart – .88 a box (they have Peanuts design too!)
  • Ace Bandages, popsicle sticks, a mini flashlight
  • treats for extra brave patients
  • old earbuds make a great stethoscope
  • single socks are great casts for broken bones (it helps if they are striped and fuzzy)
Look around your house and grab anything your child might have fun pretending with!

{Side note: I purposely didn’t use anything that resembled actual medicine, like small candies in a pill bottle. I think that is too confusing for young kids and is just asking for trouble!}
Print out the label and use clear tape to attach it to a gallon size Ziploc bag.
Get ready to observe some amazing doctoring skills…
And don’t be surprised if you walk away with a few new “ow-ies!”
I just couldn’t resist adding a little Washi tape. It’s an obsession.

There is also a version with a blank for you to fill in your child’s name.

I just found your blog via twitter and was browsing your site. It’s so cute! I’m loving the chevron bag above…only I don’t really sew. I have a machine, but I’ve only used it once and it still scares me! Haha.

But I just realized that I repinned this post a few days back. I thought it was such a cute idea and I could see my son having so much fun with it. Funny that I’m stumbling across you again so soon. I’m excited I “found” you!

Oh, I love this!! I’ve been looking for a better doctor kit for my youngest – both love to doctor their stuffed animals, etc.
I’m so glad I found you on the Saturday Show and Tell!
Now I’m going to get my doctor kit put together!

This is the cutest idea! I love it and it is so much better than those crazy plastic-y ones in the stores. This is a fantastic project! Would you consider linking this up at my Pinworthy Projects Party? I hope to see you there!

If your kid is going through a lot of band aids, you could have her make some “band aids” with brightly colored electrical tape in various sizes stuck to a sheet of wax paper. That way she could even decorate the band aids herself. Love the ear buds for a stethoscope!

This is so clever. My doc actually recommended giving my little one a doctor’s kit to help her anxiety at the doctor’s office. This seems like a great DIY option (though we ended up opting for a pre-packaged toy kit). More on that, and a link to this creative idea, in a hint today on my new site of daily hints to help make parenting easier & cheaper: http://hintmama.com/2013/12/20/todays-hint-how-to-make-your-little-one-like-the-doctor-a-little-bit-more/
