Put together a few treats and indoor activities to make a Snow Day Survival Kit for the kids when it’s too cold to play outside! This post is brought to you by Expressions Vinyl. All opinions are 100% mine. This post includes affiliate links.
Our kids just got their wish for a White Christmas when we had our first big snowfall of the season! But let’s be honest…after Christmas the snow just isn’t as magical. It’s cold and sometimes you just don’t want to bundle everyone up to go play outside! Here’s a Snow Day Survival Kit you can make for yourself or as a gift to pull out when the next storm hits!
- Mason jar or large glass jar with wide mouth
- 2 colors of adhesive vinyl (I used this White and Silver Metallic from Expressions Vinyl)
- transfer tape
- items to fill jar (ex: cocoa packets, candy, playdough or Kinetic Sand, small art kits, gloves or warm socks, RedBox codes, crayons, stickers, popcorn)
I started by cutting several sizes of snowflakes in Silver vinyl to put behind the words on the jar.
After weeding the vinyl, cut each snowflake out so they are easier to apply randomly all over the front of the jar. Use transfer tape to lift vinyl design from the carrier sheet (the white backing) and then place the tape where you want it on the jar. Get some helpers to rub lightly over the design to adhere the vinyl to the glass. Vinyl sticks really easily to glass so you won’t have even use a tool!
After applying snowflakes to the jar, I used the same method to apply the vinyl words in white to the jar!
Now it’s time to shop your house or the dollar spot for little items to put in your survival kit! (See supply list above for ideas.) Wouldn’t it be fun to include a RedBox code and some movie treats in a larger jar or box?
The small embroidery kit didn’t fit inside the jar so I tied it to the top of the jar with ribbon 😉
This would be a fun gift to give neighbors after the holidays so they can pull it out on a snowy day while the kids are out of school! What do you do to keep everyone busy when it’s too cold to play outside?
