Simple Home Decor Ideas Using NEON

June 20, 2013 11 Comments Holly & Nat

Are you a fan of the neon trend? Maybe you’re not ready to rock some electric yellow skinnies just yet. That’s okay! Here are a few simple home decor projects that can ease you in to the trend of using bold, bright colors to add life to your space.
I got to play with these fun Glitter products from American Crafts : glitter cardstock paper, glitter tape (like Washi, only ten times more awesome), glitter glue, and loose NEON glitter. Yeah, pretty fun stuff!

For the first project, I used a $2 clock from our recent IKEA haul. You can usually change out the backs of most inexpensive clocks like this one.  I traced around the plastic insert to make a template, cut it in half, and added the cute neon glitter tape in a stripe pattern.

After trimming the taped edges I cut the other half from gray cardstock. A great way to start with neon is to pair it with a neutral color like this!

I just couldn’t leave that red second-hand…so I glitterized it. Electric yellow and I’m in love.

This clock’s backing was not removable so I slipped each half behind the clock hands and adhered with double stick tape.

I love the little punch of color it adds to my daughter’s bedroom!

And she loves that it matches her outfit. Not even planned.
Another big trend right now is geometric patterns. The triangle designs are my favorite! For this quick project I hand cut several small triangles out of the glitter cardstock and arranged them in a random pattern. The neutral gray (again) in the frame really makes the colors and glitter POP!
What are some of your favorite trends right now in design?

Love this, I might try something like this for my boring clock… do you have any ideas on what to do to add numbers onto the pretty glitter. If I try this it will totally be on my blog!! Love!

This looks like a great way to let your children make a room their own! We just put in some fun spiral stairs and are looking for another way to liven up the room and really make it feel special.
