One week ago we had a big day in our family: we sent our oldest off to Kindergarten! It was totally an emotional roller coaster for this mama. Although she went to 4 days a week of preschool last year, just sending her out in the real world (on a big, scary school bus nonetheless) was a huge adjustment for all of us! It was really fun (and therapeutic) for me to spend some time the rest of the week starting my Bella’s school album. Today I want to share how I’m planning on documenting her Kinder year and also going back and finishing up Preschool photos, too.
If you follow us on Instagram, you may have seen my sneak peeks of the BRAND NEW Project Life goodies that were designed by the amazing Heidi Swapp! I grabbed some on my way back from Holly’s house (we don’t have a Michaels here. Boo.) and also got some goodies from my pals at American Crafts to play with. (You can find the new products in-store or online at Becky’s shop HERE: Heidi Swapp Project Life)
Here are some of the new products I’ve been playing with lately!
Favorite Things Core Kit
I. am. in. LOVE. The colors of the Favorite Things Core Kit are perfect and plenty feminine for my girly-girl turned Kindergartner!
Black and white with florals are such a fun trend right now – I loved combining them in this layout from the 1st day of school! I used Design D and Design A Pocket Pages, as well as pieces from some of the new Heidi Swapp Value Kits.
Overlay Value Kits
This kit is SO versatile. You can use the clear overlays over photos OR journaling/title cards for different effects. That adorable “hey there cutie” is so fitting for my little girl, and the black and white frame is one of my favorites! (Note, on the clear overlays there is a film backing you need to peel off the back side so it will be super clear!)
I loved layering them over the bigger 4×6 cards for titles!
These are a brand-new idea to Project Lifers: interactive cards that have movable parts! How cool is this camera card with a movable shutter? It reminds me of a pop-up book I had as a kid. My little girl LOVES to see herself riding the bus on the first day!
Heidi Swapp Date Stamp I LOVE this new stamp! It’s so fun to have the cursive months with the printed date (in Heidi’s signature handwriting, of course!)
12 x 12 Envelope Pages (details here) These are not a new product but they are one of my favorites! I have one for each school year to keep favorite (notice I didn’t say ALL) artwork, awards, extra photos, etc. I added the text by printing right on the 4×6 title cards from the Favorite Things Core Kit. They act as great dividers in your albums too!
Glitter Value Kit I also used some pieces from the new Glitter Value kit to make a card/gift for Bella’s first day. I love these pieces for cards and will definitely be using them on future layouts! (Letter stickers are also Heidi Swapp, seen in this older post.)
I’ll be sharing more of our Kindergarten adventures this year (and what we’re doing at home with little brother!) and I’m so glad I have a simple system to document this exciting time for our kids. You can make Project Life as simple or as detailed as you want it to be (I tend to lean toward more simple) and that’s what I love about it. If you want to see more about this memory keeping system, check out our past Project Life posts:
I was provided with some of the supplies used for this post by American Crafts.
