Santa Yarn Letters

December 14, 2012 12 Comments Holly & Nat

“He’s gonna find out who’s naughty or nice…” SO BE NICE! This is what I keep telling my kids, but I figured maybe they needed a visual reminder 🙂 I decided to re-invent one of our most popular projects {LOVE yarn letters} for Christmas…

Look at the furry Santa trim! I am dying over how they turned out!

     Here’s what you’ll need to make your own:
  • Paper mache letters
  • chunky yarn {the thicker, the better!}
  • Craft fur trim
  • Acrylic paint {I used Americana in True Red}
  • Finished wooden letters {for the “BE”}

Start by painting the edges of your letters red. {This way, you won’t have to double wrap the edges and you’ll hardly even notice that a few spots don’t have yarn!}

Hot glue is your best friend for this project! But you don’t need a lot, so don’t overglue 🙂 Start by gluing the end of your yarn to the back of the letter and then just wrap each section until it is completely covered in fuzzy goodness. {You can get my full Yarn Letter tutorial here.}

For these letters, I left about 1″ bare at the top of each letter to leave room for the fur trim. Here are two of my letters after they are completely wrapped. {You can see the bottom of each letter is bare of yarn, but the paint does a pretty good job tricking the eye!}

Next, I just cut sections of fur trim to fit the tops of each letter and attached them with hot glue. That’s it! Pretty easy, right?

Aren’t they cute?
These were SO much easier to make then my Love Yarn Letters. It only took me about an hour to finish the entire project! All my Christmas decor is offically done 🙂 Now, let’s just hope my kids start being NICE to each other!

    Heya terrific blog! Does running a blog such as this require a lot of
    work? I’ve no knowledge of coding however I was hoping
    to start my own blog in the near future. Anyways, should you have any recommendations
    or tips for new blog owners please share. I know this is
    off topic nevertheless I just wanted to ask.
    Cheers!

    […] Let me know if you guys try this! I think they would be super cute as a single letter {monogram} in your kids’ rooms or on a bookshelf. Maybe an A and Z as bookends? That would be totally doable in an afternoon! {You can find my Santa Yarn Letters here} […]
