Every year my family and I look forward to the traditions that make Christmas special to us. My kids especially love the little things we do every Christmas that create fun memories and just let us enjoy being silly together! One of the favorite rituals we have each year is a Christmas Socks dance party!
The night of the party, we gather in the family room and everyone gets to open a new pair of socks. Sometimes they are holiday-themed, and sometimes they are just a favorite character or my kids’ latest obsession (This year is Star Wars!) We all put on our socks, turn on our favorite Christmas tunes, and start dancing! The best part for me is to watch our kids interact and let loose, and my husband go crazy with his mad dance skills 🙂
We dance and dance until we can’t dance anymore! And then we end the night with some treats and another family favorite — hot chocolate. This year, we decided to try a new kind of hot chocolate I found at my local Smith’s grocery store, International Delight Heat & Drink Hot Chocolate.
This is a no-brainer hot chocolate for families with young kids! How many times have you gone into the kitchen to find a trail of chocolate powder and spilled milk on the counter from a kid trying to make their own mug of hot chocolate? For me, this is pretty much a daily occurrence! So I was excited to try this new product to see how my kids liked it. Even my 5-year-old can pour her own!
Once you have filled your mug with chocolate, simply pop in the microwave for 1-2 minutes, and you have a hot steamy cup of goodness! Couldn’t be any easier (and it’s delicious!)
We ended the night with full tummies and lots of laughs!
Here are some of our other favorite family traditions that our kids have come to love:
1. Wrapping Christmas books and opening one every night for the 12 days before Christmas
2. Driving around in pajamas to look at Christmas lights
3. Decorating gingerbread houses
4. Annual “Santa Beard Contest”
(We each take turns making a Santa beard with shaving cream on our faces, but there are no mirrors allowed! When everyone is done, we take pictures, then we have a secret ballot vote to determine who has the best beard!)
5. Christmas Bowling night
6. Shopping together for a family in need & delivering the gifts
7. Christmas caroling with friends
8. Building a fort and eating dinner or dessert inside
8. Baking and decorating Christmas sugar cookies
9. Eating soup & cinnamon rolls by candlelight on Christmas Eve
10. Have friends over for a hot chocolate party
We are actually doing this one today! And guess what we’ll be serving? Yep, the International Delight Hot Chocolate. Making things easier for mom makes more time for me to plan fun activities and spend time with my family this Christmas season. What are some of your favorite things to do as a family during the holidays? Visit International Delight’s website and share how ID helps you capture the spirit of the season for a chance to win a holiday brunch for friends and family!
Enjoy the next week with your loved ones, and let me know if you try any of these fun traditions!

[…] I have really been trying to simplify this year and do less so I can enjoy the season more. We used to have an activity every single day of our countdown! It was a lot of fun, but a LOT of work and sometimes stress for me. So this year, I am having each kid and my husband and I choose our favorite activity/tradition (seven total) and we will spread those out throughout the month. I already feel such a sense of relief by eliminating the daily expectation of our previous years’ tradition. As a family, we will still get to do many fun activities and traditions we love, but we will have more time to just relax, enjoy being together and more time to serve others! (One of our favorite traditions is our Christmas Sock dance party!) […]
