Does anyone else love new school supplies? There’s just something so clean and fresh about a newly sharpened pencil or a crisp, blank notebook. I probably love them way too much. I joke that my obsession with new crayons and post-it-notes is why I became a teacher! So naturally this time of year is one of my favorites – everything I love is filling the aisles and usually on sale. Check out this on-trend box of neon school supplies with a shiny metallic tag I made using the Minc.
Here are some ideas of things to include in this gift box for your kids going back to school:
- neon pencils, markers (Sharpies) and highlighters
- neon Post-It notes and index cards (perfect for vocabulary words)
- neon plastic pencil box
- neon stapler, scissors or ruler
For these bright and metallic tags, I tried printing black on black before running it through my Minc. It’s so fun! If you have your own printer you could use any other kind of decorative paper or cardstock, too! By the way, here is the printer we use, and it has been awesome! I love not having to run to the copy store to make things and the quality is SO much better.

Cover the tags with the Minc reactive foil (I used silver) making sure to cover all the areas that have toner. Run your tags in the transfer folder through the Minc at heat setting 3.
Okay. I’ve had the Minc for 5 months now, and it still feels so magical when you pull that foil back and see how crisp and clear your designs are! I’m in love. These turned out so awesome on the black!
Here’s what I used to fill up a box for our little sister – who isn’t so little anymore – heading into her Junior year of highschool!
Add the tag with neon or black & white ribbon to keep everything in your bright pencil box!
Guess what? The tag (totally by accident) is perfectly sized to top this package of neon pencils I found at Walmart for $1. Score!

What do you think of the neon trend? I personally think it’s so fun, especially in clothing for my kiddos. Adults can totally get away with neon office supplies, too!
