And last, but definitely not least, the show-stopper of the shower was this cake! Isn’t it fabulous? It was made by Verleen Clark, a friend of the family that is local. You can find more of her amazing cake designs HERE! It was seriously almost too pretty to cut…but was delicious once we did!
If you don’t know already, we love to party. Okay, we love to plan parties. Awhile ago, I got to help my sister-in-law throw a baby shower for her oldest daughter with such a fun theme! Nautical is a big trend right now, so it was easy to incorporate it in the party decor and details!
Luckily the weather cooperated and we were able to keep this shower outside in my mother-in-laws gorgeous backyard! This old fence made the perfect backdrop for the food tables. The centerpiece – this life preserver – was SO easy to make!
We found the life preserver at TJMaxx for about $15 – already painted and including the canvas and rope. I just added some painted letters in the baby’s initials and hot glued a piece of outdoor fabric in a matching stripe on the back. It’s so fun to make something that will be used for the baby’s room and not just thrown away after the party’s over!
The pennant banner was easy to do with nautical patterned paper, a 3″ punch and my Cricut machine.
Here’s our party tip: START with a theme. You can have a theme for any type of get together, even a backyard barbecue or get-together on a weeknight with friends. Then it’s easy to incorporate that theme in everything you do! We had a few really fun details with the food, like these Jello Sailboats.
You can also add things to your appetizers and drinks to fit your theme! We used these little party circles (stay tuned for all the printables on Wednesday!) on toothpicks to add something nautical to these sandwiches.
Next, shop your home. Pull out anything you think might go with the theme and see if it works! This lighthouse came from my mother-in-law, and the lantern was mine (found at Jo-Ann Fabric.)
We put a bigger version of the invitation in a frame to have on display,
next to a cute little ultrasound picture of Baby Boy!
My sister-in-law came up with the cutest details to really incorporate the theme – check out this great trunk/treasure chest she used to hold the gifts! She also hung some baby clothes on the clothesline and set up the brand-new crib with darling Nautical bedding (a gift from Mom-to-Be’s parents – how sweet!)
No baby shower is complete without a diaper cake, and this one was amazing! Another sister-in-law made it and included the theme in her accessories! I love this! If you know the shower has a theme, why not incorporate that into your gift?
I hope you got some ideas for your next baby shower or party!
