You guys! I’m thrilled to be joining some of our favorite bloggers to share our work spaces with you today. March is National Craft Month and we are celebrating by showing you our craft rooms or other spaces in our homes where we create beautiful things! Here is my new mobile craft space:
One thing that always used to intimidate me about seeing other bloggers’ craft rooms is how huge their spaces are… I have a family of 7 and don’t have a dedicated room in my house right now to use as a craft room. We have a guest room downstairs that I store most of my craft, sewing, and design supplies in, but to be honest since we’ve moved in it has almost always been occupied! I’ve also found that is hard for me to work on projects down there during the day, because my younger kids just want to be with me and I’m usually wherever they are.
So, in order to create a work space for myself I had to think outside the box. I knew the best place in my home for shooting blog projects would be upstairs in the loft area, because it gets great natural light almost anytime during the day. But it is currently used as my girls’ playroom and art area. We have SO many of their larger toys in that room, I wasn’t sure how I would find a usable space for me!
I essentially wanted three different types of work spaces in one:
- A desk for me (with plenty of surface area to craft)
- A counter height table to use for filming videos
- A work space for my kids to use the computer and film YouTube videos
I knew I needed something really light and easy to move around to different parts of the room. I went in search of the perfect work table/desk at IKEA and I found this:
It is the LINNMON table top with the OLOV adjustable legs in white. This entire set up only cost me $90! The table is a perfect size, 59″ by 29.5″ and I love that I can adjust the legs up or down as I need to change things. If you don’t live near an IKEA, here is the same tabletop with slightly different legs on Amazon (affiliate link.) Let me show you where I use it in my room, and how it fills all of the functions I wanted!
First, it is my mobile craft room and work space! I keep it here most of the time as my desk space and crafting area. My girls love that I have my own desk next to theirs where we can work on projects together. I still keep the majority of my craft supplies downstairs, but I have things in baskets and other containers so I can easily bring them up to work on my latest project.
Here is another favorite IKEA hack, using this box with dividers to store all of my craft paint!
The second way I use my new table/desk is against the wall across from the windows in the room (great lighting!) Here, I am able to pull it out from the wall and take videos of me behind the table doing crafts, or I will often shoot project pictures for my blog posts.
The third spot I like to use it is right when you enter the loft space, at the top of my stairs. It fits perfectly here when I need extra space in the main part of the room.
I’m super excited about this new addition. I finally have a craft space that I can actually USE, and it can change as my needs change. I didn’t go out and spend a ton of money, or clear out a room in my house, I just found a space and made it work for me!
Now I would love for you to check out all of the other amazing spaces on this craft room tour:
