Last-Minute New Year’s Eve Party Ideas

December 30, 2013 3 Comments Holly & Nat

Tomorrow is New Year’s Eve… are any of you scrambling for some easy decorations and party ideas? I know I am 🙂  Here are some of the simple projects I have put together for our party:

The best part about these ideas is that most of them use leftover Christmas decor, or items that are totally on clearance right now! Mini ornaments, tinsel garland, holiday paperware, etc. I got most of my stash at Target for 50-70% off!

Let’s start with my DIY 2014 Marquee “Lights”….
Remember the JOY Glitter Marquee Letters I made a few weeks ago?
I love them so much, I decided to make more! This time, I wanted numbers instead of letters–2014 to celebrate the New Year. Only one little problem… they don’t make cardboard numbers. So I changed my plan and took a letter L and letter H, and cut them down to make a 1 and 4:
Instead of real light bulbs, I used mini Christmas ornaments and glued them inside the cardboard numbers to achieve the look of marquee lights! (For the full tutorial on how to make these, see my DIY Glitter Marquee Letter post.)
I love that I can use them now for my NYE party, and save them for Valentines’ Day too!
You may have seen my Chalkboard party hats over at Tatertots and Jello last week…
My kids are excited to make these at our party tomorrow night! For the full tutorial, visit us here.
The next easy idea I made is to decorate the food table. I started out this this beautiful black and gold stoneware, Threshold brand from Target. (Yes, I got it 70% off!)
I also found the little gold star picks at Target in the partyware section. I tested the chalk marker first to make sure it would wipe off easily, then I personalized the platter to display my bowl of Midnight Kisses!
What a fun way to display chocolate kisses at your NYE Party!
Another last-minute way to update your paper partyware for New Year’s Eve:
Using a black sharpie, I added some festive words around the edges of the gold paper plates I picked up for my party.
My last project is probably my favorite…
I made a mini New Year’s Eve ball garland! I used some disco ball mini ornaments I got at Target for 75 cents. (They probably still have plenty!) It is so pretty and sparkly in the sun, I may leave it up after the party!
Hope you guys have a wonderful New Year’s Eve! We’ll be back tomorrow sharing our top posts of 2013.
