LaLaLoopsy Birthday Party Ideas {On a BUDGET!}

March 18, 2013 29 Comments Holly & Nat

One of the things Holly and I LOVE to do (even though we don’t have a lot of it on the blog) is plan parties. Our mom threw the most fun, creative parties for us as kids and it just kinda stuck! (Think Double Dare in the early 90’s.) So when my two kids’ birthdays fall 2 days apart and I tell myself, “Nah, I don’t need to do a party this year…,” my party-loving-self fights back, “Yes, you do! You LOVE it!” So here it is. We did LaLaLoopsy for my daughter and McD’s for my son. That’s what he wanted! (Thank you, son.)

I kept the decor super simple. Oh, and did I mention I really did not want to break the bank on a party for a 4-year old who probably could care less? This is not a fancy-party post. I just wanted to share some things we did that were easy, fun and pretty cheap!

Keep reading to see INEXPENSIVE ideas for decor, party games and favors!
(Totally adaptable for any party!)

 I got 2 adorable banners out of a $2 pack of doilies and 2 sheets of scrapbook paper. Punch or cut circles, fold in half with the doily over the yarn and glue. Or make it 10 times easier on yourself and staple.

These cute flowers took 30 seconds to make and cost just over a buck. I used dollar store flowers, hot glued buttons in the centers, and stuck the whole thing in a vase filled with loopy yarn. Easy!

My favorite part about doing this on the cheap was finding things I already had to add little details. I used colorful spools of thread, chalkboard paper,  beads, pink measuring tapes, even colored duct tape!
Here’s a big money-saving tip : use stickers to make non-character (ahem, dollar store) party supplies into ones that fit your theme. My daughter went nuts for these cups I decorated with .75 a pack LaLaLoopsy stickers!
Party games! You have to have them at a party for 4 year olds. It also helps to have a husband who totally rocks at entertaining said kids. He saved my tush and led all the activities while I mixed up pink frosting for cupcakes 😉
We played “Pin the Button Eyes on the LaLaLoopsy” with little black eyes punched from cardstock and this AWESOME poster the aforementioned Super Dad made at 11:30 the night before. I absolutely LOVE how it turned out!

Then the kids all made button bracelets with different sizes and types of buttons (thanks JoAnn’s coupons!) and thin black elastic cording. This took a little help from my amazing friend who stepped in while…yes, I was still working on cupcakes. Everyone loved it!

For party favors, I went with super simple and again, CHEAP. Each of these were about 75 cents – less than it would have cost to get each kid one toy from the dollar store!

Each favor included: ice cream cone bubbles (3 for $1), a Loopy straw, a couple balloons and some Starbursts (what the Birthday Girl picked.) I put it all in a paper cup and tied it up with these easy glittered clothespins, made using DCWV Glitter Stack.

 I hope this helped someone out there that wants to do a FUN party for LESS moo-lah!
Happy party planning! (And thank goodness we’re done with birthdays for another year!)

    Very cute and inventive too, parties can be super fun to plan and throw but seem to always break the budget!! Awesome job!

    So cute! You’re awesome! I’m hiring you for Lucy’s birthday next year. (I’ll pay you in cookies.) 🙂 Just one suggestion. We “deal finders” like to see a total price tag. What it cost to pull the whole thing off. That would have been interesting. Although, no matter how cheap it was, I could never pull it off because I’m me… but that’s why I’m hiring you, right? Haha
