How To Display Your Child’s Art and $200 Giveaway Blog Hop

July 21, 2013 77 Comments Holly & Nat

We want to give a big THANK YOU to coupons.com for providing a gift card to purchase supplies for this project!
Back to School is just around the corner, and today we want to share a solution for one of the things that always comes with school-age kids: artwork. We love it, right? Until it takes over every inch of the fridge and walls and counters, and…you get the idea. Today we’re sharing a simple solution AND a BIG giveaway!

My daughter is into drawing right now. She’s just starting to do those cute stick arms with like 10 fingers on each hand. I really feel that if every single picture is hung on the fridge or walls, there isn’t a chance for them to be noticed. So we decided to make a designated place for ONE special picture that can be rotated very easily. You could make a similar grouping with one frame for each child in the family!

Here are the supplies I grabbed at JoAnn Fabric.

  • Easy-Loading Artwork Picture Frame (used a coupon, of course!)
  • Wood Plaque
  • 3M Command strips
  • foam brushes and acrylic paint

This frame is so brilliant. It has a hinged front to make showcasing different masterpieces incredible easy! It was a little plain, so I used acrylic craft paint to add a pop that would really make the artwork stand out.

Adding the stripes to the mat was so easy – I have a feeling I’ll be updating a lot more frames around our house now! I simply took the mat out of the frame, used a ruler to mark out the stripes ( you could use painters tape, but I wanted a little more of a hand-painted look) and painted with black acrylic paint.

To make this little Art Gallery even more personal, I painted the wood plaque with one of my favorite colors, let it dry, and then added 2 coats of this fun Clear Chalkboard Coating. Make sure to follow the directions on the bottle for techniques and drying times. Now my plaque is a chalkboard! I had my little girl “autograph” the plaque and we can change it out with the title of the piece, etc.

Since we’re renting, everything went on the wall with 3M Command Strips. I hope this gives you some ideas on tackling that endless pile of paper that comes home during the school year! We love having a special place to display those little masterpieces now!

Are you ready for the GIVEAWAY?
This post is brought to you by Coupons.com.  They recently reached out to a group of us and challenged us to create a Back to School project.  I was excited to partner with them.  They are the largest provider of digital coupons on the web for both companies and brands.  Did you know they offer Jo-Ann coupon codes and Home Depot coupon codes too?  I had no idea and was pretty excited to find that out!!  Bring on the projects and savings, right?

What a cute project to showcase your little girl’s artwork!! I love that frame and want to see if I can find it…would love to add this to my “Student of the Week” bulletin board. Third-graders would love to make a picture for their display. Did you get the clear chalkboard paint at JoAnn’s as well? We just got a new JoAnn’s in our area!!! So excited to go and see what all they carry!! Thanks for your project inspiration!

Now for the giveaway….I have a question and please forgive me not “getting” what we’re supposed to do. Do we leave a comment “here” what we would buy with the JoAnn’s code, or is it somewhere on Coupons.com site?

Thank you so much for your help.

Thank you so much, Donna! JoAnn’s is the only craft store we have where I live and I LOVE it. I already had the chalkboard coating but I’m sure they carry it there. I think you should be able to find the frame there too by the other picture frames! For the giveaway, you leave a comment HERE on the blog and then use the Rafflecopter to verify that you’ve done that. Sorry for the confusion!

First of all, thank you for this great giveaway.

The 50% off coupon code, NUPV201, says it’s valid until 7/31/13; however, when I clicked on it to get the code, it says it’s valid until 7/20/13….which expired yesterday. If the coupon code is still valid, I would love to get a similar frame that Nat used to place on my Student of the Week board.

I would use the 50% off coupon for a bigger item especially if I won the $200.00. When my kids were little I had mat board “frames” that I added magnets to and used them on the fridge to frame their special art. I had them color their own frames or use water colors to design them and we gave them as gifts to the grandparents. Thanks Pat
