You guys know about my love of hexagons, right? Well, I’ve managed to incorporate a few into my Halloween decor this year. I also have a thing for black and white stripes! So I put the two together and created this fun, modern spin on the traditional Halloween BOO letters:
**For a limited time, this package will be available in our shop. It includes the hexagons and letter B, ready to finish as you desire!**
Materials:
- (2) 8-inch wooden hexagons
- (1) 8-inch paper mache letter B
- (2) wooden blocks
- acrylic craft paint from DecoArt
- foam brush
- masking tape
- hot glue
I started by painting the base of the letter B and one of the hexagons in white, it took 2-3 coats to get complete coverage. I painted the other hexagon orange for my pumpkin.
Once they were completely dry, I taped the white letters with masking tape to create my stripe pattern:
I painted the exposed surfaces with my black acrylic craft paint, 2 coats did the trick! I removed the tape, then added a cute stem to my orange hexagon “pumpkin.” Can you guess what the stem is made of??
It is a piece of cedar bark from my yard, painted black! Haha, I am a resourceful crafter!! To get the hexagons to stand on their own, I glued a wooden block to the back of each at the base of the hexagon. Here is the trick…
When you are hot gluing it on the back, you have to build up a few layers of glue at the base so the block is attached at an angle. This will provide a solid support for the hexagon so it won’t tip over. Just do it like the picture shows and it will work! I promise!
I really love how this project turned out… complete with a ceramic bulldog dressed as a witch 🙂
If you want to grab a set of your own, we have a limited quantity available in our shop, Geometree Design. All orders will be sent out this week so you can have them in plenty of time for your Halloween decor. They would also look super cute hanging on your door in place of a wreath… so many possibilities!!
We have lots of Halloween projects coming your way this week, so stay tuned!
Super cute!! I love the hexagon shape!!
Thanks, Crystal!
