With the temperatures dropping {not to mention the leaves}, it can only mean one thing… time to decorate my front door for Fall! I have seen a lot of Halloween wreaths out there, but I wanted to do something a little different this year. For my door decoration, I decided to create a bewitching display with one of my painted chalkboard platters.
I attached the hat to the top edge of the platter with hot glue {again!} This was a little trickier to line up just right, but it worked best when I laid the platter flat on the table to apply the glue. I was thrilled with how all three pieces looked together…
It is really secure, I am not worried about it falling down at all! And it is super easy to take down and re-attach, so I could easily bring it inside if we have a big storm. {By the way, what do you think of my newly-painted turquoise door?}
We love linking to these parties!
what a fantastic door wreath! love it
You mentioned the broom was from last year…..did you make it or buy it somewhere? it’s really awesome too!
Right now Target has some similar little witches brooms. The one I bought is about 24 inches long and it has a black wooden handle and the “brush” part is made of grape vine twigs that are covered in purple glitter. They also came in green or copper colored glitter. They were in the dollar section, but I think they cost $2.50. 🙂
Love it! Much more creative than the typical wreath.
so cute! After reading your post about turning Dollar Store platters into chalkboards, I rushed right out and got a few. They were my next project, but I’m thinking I may have to try this first, before the holiday. Thank you for sharing another great project! You girls are TALENTED!

This is so great! It’s so great to see door decor that isn’t a wreath, for a little change. (Not, that I don’t love wreaths! LOL!) Very creative! I would LOVE if you would share this at my Crazy Cute Party happening right now! I’ve got a totally awesome giveaway that you could win just for linking up! Come on over! ;D

Thanks, Marcie
I am almost finished with my platter, broom, and hat. It is so pretty. I am about to attach my broom and hat. Now that some time has passed since you made yours, are they still sticking to the platter? I am really concerned they will fall off or will have a hard time sticking it. I am wondering if I should use a different glue than hot glue? I cannot wait until it is done! I think I will get more supplies next year and make for friends. There was only one peacock feather left and no others to be found around me. I have a feeling alot of people saw your blog…thank you for the idea. I love it!!
This is awesome! I really love it and just bought a tray just like yours from the dollar store. I’m going to pin this for next year!
