Glitter Glam Halloween Mantel (and a big FIRST!)

October 18, 2013 3 Comments Holly & Nat

Confession time! I have no mantel. I DO have this little shelf I like to pretend is a mantel. And (yippee!) this is my first “mantel post” on the blog! Mostly because I have no idea what I’m doing and I like to let Holly do all the home decor stuff! So there’s my big first…My Glitter Glam Halloween Mantel. If you know me at all you’re not surprised I’m posting it so late in the month. 😉
This has basically become a home for several different Halloween projects I’ve done this year. There are a few new things, too of course…but I like to keep it simple!
It all started with a thrifted frame that I glammed up with a few coats of gold paint. It was perfect for holding one of the awesome Chalkboard prints from Caravan Shoppe! I shrunk the file to 12×18 and got two on one engineering print from Staples. Have you seen Holly’s Burlap Wall Hanging and Magnetic Mr. Bones? We’re kinda lovin’ the prints this year!
Of course the gold in my DIY Glitter Candles (tutorial HERE) fits right in with the theme, and the sparkle is a-ma-zing when it catches the sunlight from our windows.
I felt like it needed a little something more and this cupcake liner banner was fast and easy to put together. I used two liners for each letter and cut, inked and roughed them up a little for texture. The gold letter stickers are from American Crafts – love that font!

These little candles are my favorite! I love black and white stripes and wanted to incorporate them in the mantel. The black glitter tape (also American Crafts) made the sparkly stripes totally mess free and quick to apply. I did use a little bit of stronger permanent tape at each stripe to make sure they stayed. I wanted old gold candlesticks and couldn’t find them so I carved out some mini pumpkins and put the candles inside using (yup!) Playdough to keep them standing!

The barren walls were a great spot to hang the Embroidery Hoop Gallery Wall (tutorial HERE) since I hadn’t found the perfect spot for it yet. To tie it all in I found the cutest kid-friendly Halloween tablecloth at Big Lots for less than $5 that totally fits my glam theme. It’s vinyl so I can wipe away all our cookie-making messes!

It’s never too late to add a little Halloween Glam, right? I love how festive it feels in our home now! I’m ready – bring on the candy! Oops…finish costumes first. My bad.

What a beautiful glam shelf/mantel! I never would have guessed it was your first one–it’s gorgeous! I popped over from Link Party Palooza. Thanks for sharing!
