I have loved seeing all the great family “command centers” out there in blogland this fall. Someday I’ll make a fabulous one of my own. But I’m starting small. Instead of for our whole family, I wanted to create a command center for my preschooler. It was simple, easy and cheap – I spent less than $20 on the whole project! Here’s how I made a little corner of organization in my 3 year-old’s world.
First I cleared out some junk stuff from my daughter’s room. I put these drawers in her closet and that left a little corner that was perfect for her command center.
I got these cute Vintage Teal Hooksand Picture-Hanging Strips
at Home Depot. The cute mini clipboards are from Wal-Mart (and they’re now on clearance for only .50!)
Now… the bones are there, but I knew I wanted a little more order to the corner. You can put so many things in those little clipboards – pictures, child’s artwork, chore charts. I made a simple “What to Expect” page. There is a place to write in the day of the week and what is going on that day. My daughter is beginning to have more going on in her busy little 3-year-old life, and I wanted to start talking to her about what to expect on certain days.
Each morning and night when she gets dressed/un-dressed we can now take a few minutes to talk about her day and what’s coming next! It’s so simple but it’s all a preschooler needs!
{You can simply laminate the pages so make them dry-erase friendly, or for the cheaper method, use a standard 8.5 x 11 sheet protector and sew up one side to make it fit! Then just trim off all the extra plastic!}
We love linking to these parties!
Love this lil corner you created! I feel if I tried this w/ my 6 yr old, it wouldn’t so easy as you put it. Thanks for the inspiration!
Her dance picture is soooooo cute!
Nat! This is perfect! I can’t wait til Harper is old enou to be organized!
Wow, so cute! Now come visit me and do this for Lucy. 🙂
This is so cute! Love all the sweet touches! Great ideas as always!!!
I loved your reference to “that song”, too – thank you for getting that into my head once again today 😉 That was very funny, btw.
Cute Cute COLORFUL CUTENESS. psssst, want to tell me how I too can have picture boxes at the top of my blog? I am seeing them a lot on blogs. I love your layout and big pic. boxes. I would love to learn? jenglamgirl@gmail.com hugs, jen
Adorable! What a great idea. Not a family zone, but a kid zone. I have three little ones, and I need to find a place for this!
How cute is this!!! That is the perfect little command center for your sweeties!! Love the colors too!!
Love this idea! Will need to do something similar for my son as he gets older (almost 14 mo now). Inspiration for his play area in the living room too. Found you on the craft & tell link party.
Love this! That chair is fantastic in pink. I’d love to be able to spray paint that well. Found your colorful blog from a tweet, and am in bloggy love.
This one of the things I wish I would have thought of when my 20 year girl was a toddler. It is pretty perfect or a perfectly pretty command center. 🙂
Little babies do not care about the arrangements and organizing things but your baby is so smart. Kids toddler are most likely demanded by parents when they have a baby of one or two years old.
I have also choose small baby’s furniture for my sister’s little baby from Baby Direct online because I found that they have a wide variety of baby furniture with them.
Thanks.
