Enjoying the Comforts of Home (and supporting our troops!)

October 17, 2014 Leave a Comment Holly & Nat

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Marie Callender’s for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

With the colder temps outside, my family and I have been spending a lot more time inside together in the evenings. This week, I decided to surprise the kids with one of the their favorite family activities… building a fort and eating dessert inside! This has become one of my go-to plans for indoor playtime because they love making forts, and for some reason eating inside together is SO much more fun than eating at the table. I’m a busy mom and most days I don’t have time to whip up a homemade dessert. So I picked up these mini Marie Callender’s pies at the store, set them out to thaw while we were building the fort, and they were ready to eat in 10 minutes!

The cool thing about the mini pies is they come in a small container, perfect for little fingers and bellies! My kids couldn’t wait to enjoy them in the fort…

Even the baby got in on the fun! Creating family memories like this doesn’t have to take hours of planning or prep. Just grab a few blankets and chairs, some dessert of your choice and I promise, your kids will think you are the coolest mom around!

OK, so here is something else pretty cool. Marie Callendar’s just launched the Comforts From Home project, which helps out all the men and women serving in the U.S. military (including some of my own siblings!) Look for these specially marked packages at your local grocery store:

Every time you enter a code from a specially marked package of Marie Callender’s meals or desserts, they’ll make a donation to USO2GO, a program that brings electronics, sports gear, books, games and more to troops stationed in remote locations.

When we were enjoying our dessert together, I talked to the kids about this program and how it helps the brave men and women serving our country. We talked about their aunts and uncles who are active members of the U.S. military… the kids have two uncles serving in the Air Force, one in the Army, and an aunt in the Marines who is currently stationed in Japan. They were excited that we could help them in a small way by entering our code and donating to such a great cause!

If you’d like to help out our troops as well, find Marie Callender’s Facebook and make sure to look for the participating Marie Callender’s meals & desserts the next time you need a quick family dinner. And try the “dinner in the fort” idea… your kids will LOVE it!

*For every entry by 1/31/2015 of an 8-digit code found on participating products, Marie Callender’s will donate $.50 to the USO2GO program. Guaranteed minimum donation: $100,000. Maximum donation: $250,000. Limit 5 code entries per person/computer each day. Valid in U.S. Only.
