DIY “Vintage” Button Bookmarks – 5 Minute Project!

May 7, 2013 17 Comments Holly & Nat

Did you see that? I wasn’t kidding – this is a 5 MINUTE project! Mother’s Day is coming up, and it’s probably one of the most notorious holidays for homemade gifts. Button bookmarks are easy to make and the kids can even help make a set for Grandma!

Confession: I do not have a button collection. Tragic, right? I don’t have any buttons besides the leftovers from this party and the ones that come with my favorite cardigans from Target. Hence the “vintage” in quotations!

Luckily I found these buttons at JoAnn Fabric that are part of the lovely Tim Holz line! With a coupon they were $4.With a coupon they were $4.
 What You Need:
  • buttons
  • wire cutters or industrial scissors
  • paper clips or pre-backed clips (from SNAP swag via Pick Your Plum)
  • E6000 glue (hot glue won’t work on the clips I used. Dang.)
Here’s where the 5 minutes comes in.
1. Use wire cutters to clip off the hook on each button back.
2. Squeeze a small drop of E6000 glue on the flat side of your paper clip.
(If you’re using regular paper clips, just back it with a small circle of felt.)
3. Stick on the button.

4. Give your mama some cute homemade bookmarks and make up a story about the vintage-ness of the buttons. Okay, I’ll be doing that last part, but you don’t have to.

Ta-da! Easiest Mother’s Day gift ever. Stick a few in that book you just picked up for Mom or just give her a set with a list of your current favorite reads!
Here’s another idea for paper clips – these are a slightly larger size!

Now this is the kind of thing that my kids need to make for me! Maybe my husband could use a little hint, because I’m pretty sure he could handle using glue ;D

Super cute, and I needed something for my kids to give their teachers. Not sure how well it will go ever with the sixth grade teachers, but I like it!! The 3 year old and I will have to make a trip out to Joann Fabrics today!!
