I am really excited to share my Halloween Mantel with you guys today. This year, I wanted to do something different and thanks to Martha Stewart Crafts, I had everything I needed to make my creation come to life! I received a box of Martha’s latest paints and accessories from Plaid, and was drawn to the shades of gray, silver, red, and black glitter. I was also inspired by these lovely ladies:
My idea was to create a vignette that would represent each of these fabulously evil villains. I used items that I had in my Halloween stash, and pulled a few other things from around my home together to create this fun twist on spooky decor. Using my Martha Stewart products, I was able to transform every day decor items to fit my theme. Can you spot the “villains” in my mantel?
First, I taped the inner edges of the frame to protect the wood. Then I applied the Martha Stewart Chalkboard Paint directly to the surface of the glass. I did about 3 coats to make sure that it was consistent and had good coverage. {Cool thing about her chalkboard paint? It comes in colors too: gray, blue, and green!}
Once everything was dry, I conditioned my new chalkboard {covered the entire surface with chalk, then wiped clean} and wrote my villain quote. It is the centerpiece of my mantel design and I love it!
This is one of my favorite finds! I had never used the Martha Stewart gilding products before, and I can’t wait to use them again… {I already have another project in the works with my brass gilding!} It went on my mirror frame like butter, it was so easy to apply. Just make sure you have the proper tools for clean-up {nail polish remover works great to clean spills and brushes.} I am in love with the finished surface of my mirror, it looks beautiful and expensive! Perfect for a vain, evil queen 🙂
My last projects were for the Queen of Hearts vignette. First, I took a simple art canvas with an image of a queen of hearts playing card that I created earlier this year for my Valentine’s Day Mantel. I updated it to add a pop of red with the Tartan Red Satin and Garnet Coarse Glitter paints from Martha’s line:
