12 Less-Mess Easter Egg Ideas (for KIDS)

March 11, 2013 10 Comments Holly & Nat

Do you decorate (or dye) eggs with your kids? I do, even though they are little it has to be done as part of tradition. There are hundreds of ideas out there for fancy, new, creative ways to dye or decorate eggs. This post is all about KID-FRIENDLY. There’s not a chance in you-know-where I’m letting my toddlers decorate eggs with a Sharpie marker or hot glue! (Hot glue, seriously? Cool, but not for kids.) I’ll admit, even glitter scares me. It Never. Goes. Away.

Here are 10 ideas that are relatively harmless on the scale of easter egg messiness. Some are still using dye, some are all about decorating without it.

Good Old Fashioned Crayon Resist (my go-to idea)

Oil & Food Coloring Marbled Eggs
Create Patterns With Electrical Tape
Polka Dot Eggs
Melted Crayon Eggs (I would do the shavings method for small kids)
Button Decorated Eggs
We’re all about buttons after our LaLaLoopsy Party!
Bubble Wrap Painted Eggs
Eric Carle Easter Eggs
Disney Eggs with Temporary Tattoos
Easy Spotted Eggs
Here are my two favorite tips for making your experience with kids
(not in general…just when it comes to dyeing eggs…) better:
Use a Whisk to Dye Eggs with Kids
Use Baby Food Jar to Dye Eggs
What are your tips for dyeing eggs with your kids? Feel free to leave a comment!

All these look great – no kiddies around here but that doesn’t mean some of these can make dying eggs easier… espically if you have a habit of getting food colouring everywhere, everytime you use it!! Cool tips! Will check out Crafting with the Stars and see if I can vote here in Aus! Sounds awesome just like Dancing with the Stars but with inspiration!
