How to slip-cover your table with a RUG!

A week ago, I revealed my new Living Room to you guys... thank you for all the sweet comments! Today I am going to show you how I updated a thrifted table, and made it into a one-of-a-kind {kid friendly} piece of furniture.

I started out with this plain table I scored when the GAP stores closed in our mall last month. It was used as a merchandising table for clothes, but it's the perfect size for a coffee table in my room. I liked the industrial look of the legs and solid wood top... it makes it super sturdy!

But after a few weeks of my kids climbing on it and racing their hot wheels all over, there were already a few scratches and dings in the wood. I knew I wanted to cover it with something unconventional, and figure out a way to make it easily removable for cleaning. I was shopping at Target one day and came across some gorgeous rugs by Nate Berkus... the textures and designs were amazing. I knew exactly what I wanted to do! {Unfortunately, none of those rugs were the right size for my table, so I continued my search.}

Build Your Blog Conference + Tips for Beginner Bloggers

Happy Monday, everyone! Did you have a good weekend? Today we wanted to share some highlights from the fun we had last weekend. So...we're taking turns today. Hope that's alright!
We're also sharing some tips from our class at Build Your Blog!

Holly: Having a few days with my Sis was amazing... The best part about starting our blog together is that we get to meet up for sister weekends (and we can tell our husbands we're "working!") We did have to fit some work in, but we had a lot of fun too :) Being on Studio 5 together was one of the highlights of our trip. It is something we have always wanted to do and I am so glad we got to do a segment together. We learned a few things for our next TV appearance... We will make sure to have some Junior Mints on hand (apparently they help with dry mouth, haha!) I will never wear my hair down on camera because I have a hair-flipping problem, and Nat will work on a few more ways to wave to the camera :)  If you missed the show, you can see it here: Studio 5 Segment

on our way • wall art installed and ready to go
the gorgeous and talented Brooke Walker (we "dirtygrammed" this pic)
being dorks at KSL • where the crap did we park? • talking to Mom after the show

Nat: Yeah, that wave was SO awesome. But seriously, I'm so proud of Holly! She had about .5 seconds between when we finished the wall and when they went live and she was totally pro.
 After the show we got to spend the rest of the day in bliss at City Creek with NO KIDS!
Friday night we met up with tons of bloggers at the little "meet and greet" the Six Sisters put on. It was a great way to meet new friends and catch up with old ones. (And swap business cards, of course.)

We had a yummy dinner with the cool Idaho Bloggers, then headed back to finish up our presentation for Saturday. And no late-night party is complete without these two things:

PowerPoint? Crushed it.

Holly: On Saturday we got to attend the Build Your Blog Conference, hosted by some of our favorite blogging sisters! Nat and I taught a class for beginning bloggers and it was so awesome to hear the positive feedback from people who attended our class. If we inspired even a few new bloggers, it was so worth it! One of the best parts of the conference was having a chance to meet up with old friends, and connect with people we had only met online. I even had a chance to reconnect with an old college friend who I hadn't seen in years!!! One girl came up to us after our class and told us she found out about our blog through her sister, who is a Senior in high school. Her sister loves our blog and reads it faithfully! That made me smile and I just felt so happy that we have been able to create something that inspires other people. The entire day was wonderful... We learned so many things that we want to start doing to make our blogging experience better.

Nat's 2 favorite Idaho Bloggers! McKenzie from Girl Loves Glam & Holly

Nat: Today we want to share the little handout we gave to the class. Our hope was that we wouldn't overwhelm anyone with advice, so we gave 5 simple things to start implementing right away.
get the printable PDF here

Holly: The best advice I took away came from Camille.... she told us not to sell ourselves short. And to work SMARTER, not HARDER. It is okay to be compensated for the time and money that we put into our blog. We are spending time away from our families and we want to be smarter about how we use that time, so we can continue to do what we love. {And guess what? It's OK to make money while you're doing it!}

Nat: We learned so much at Build Your Blog - it was so worth the trip! But we know there are lots who couldn't make it. Guess what? The awesome Six Sisters are actually offering all the audio recordings of each class! The downloads should be available this week on (free for conference-goers, small fee for everyone else) We're so excited to hear the classes we missed at the conference. And now the countdown begins for our next "girl's weekend"... SNAP!

PEOPLE Magazine + $20 Target Gift Card Giveaway

Today's post is pretty fun because I'm going to reveal my "celebrity look-a-like" to you guys, and we're giving away a
$20 Target gift card {my favorite place to shop!}
So, we all know that the Oscars are around the corner. It is my favorite awards show because the fashion is AH-MAY-ZING! I love scoping out the red carpet for the most glamorous stars. I know this is the Project Runway-loving-fashion-nerd coming out in me, but I literally can't WAIT to see who makes the best-dressed lists and the cover of PEOPLE Magazine.

Personally, there are a few of my favorites who I can't wait to see all dressed up...

Amy Adams, Anne Hathaway, and Natalie Portman are classic beauties with impeccable taste. They all look fabulous in traditional colors -- red, black, and white. This year I would love to see one of them in a deep royal blue or navy, maybe even a soft mint colored gown for spring.

The PEOPLE Magazine Oscars Double Issue hits the shelves on March 1st, and will only be available until March 18, 2013. It's the Red Carpet issue that provides the best coverage of the 2013 Oscars,  including the gowns, gossip, and gorgeous photos. Be sure to keep reading to see how to enter my $20 Target Gift Card Giveaway!  In addition to the giveaway for the Target gift card, test your PEOPLE Trivia skills for a chance to win tons of different prizes from PEOPLE. Enter each week for a chance to win one of hundreds of rewards cards! Click the link to play now at:

Did you guys guess my celebrity "twin" from the pictures above??

I am often asked by strangers, "Do people ever tell you that you look like Anne Hathaway?"
Man, I wish I looked as beautiful as she does!

Now... to the GIVEAWAY! {Enter with the Rafflecopter widget below.} Please leave a comment letting us know which stars YOU want to see on the cover of this year's PEOPLE Magazine Oscars Double Issue.

Spring Gift Idea and Printable Tag

I feel like at this time of year, we all need a little pick-me-up. It's cold, the fun holidays are over, and kids are sick of being in school. I put together this little bucket 'o sunshine for a friend who could use a smile. (And a fresh spring pedicure!)

I got the cute tin for .97 at Wal-Mart, and grabbed a few other things to "Put the Spring in your Step!" Essie's Mint Candy Apple is a must. And nothing says spring like Cadbury Mini Eggs. Yum.

Spring Style with Old Navy

This post is sponsored by Old Navy. Check out Old Navy's Kids and Baby sale in stores or at

Can you feel it? Spring is just around the corner! It's time to refresh your wardrobe and pull out the flip-flops. Through Wednesday (2/20) Old Navy is having a giant Kids & Baby Sale you do not want to miss!

The selection in-store was fabulous. There were new spring-weather outfits and also cute sweaters and leggings to keep your cuties warm until spring arrives. I love the chambray/navy/kelly green combo lately, and there were lots of cute mix and match options to fit the trend! Do those flats come in my size?

My little girl came with me to check out the new styles and great deals. We checked out the swimwear and I let her pick out her favorite swimsuit. Can you tell she really liked it?

We also got this cute terry cover-up to go with the new swimsuit. My daughter uses one every year, I love them!

How cute is this spring outfit? I love the puff sleeve and anchor detail on the shirt, and those pink jellies are perfect! The denim skirt is so versatile.

Total cost for this look: $30. Including shoes, that is a great deal!

Happy Spring Shopping!

Living Room Makeover {Part One}

I can't wait to show you guys what I've been working on in my living room for the past few weeks. To fully appreciate it, you need to see the before pictures. Here is what it looked like about a month after we moved in:

I updated it right away with a clean coat of light gray paint to get rid of the brown, but for the past year I have been stuck with a lot of turquoise, and a lack of style or direction in the room. I've been inspired by all the geometric shapes I've seen in fashion, textiles, and jewelry and I wanted to bring that to my design. On a really LARGE scale.

My geometric wall installation was the jumping off point to bring in more color, pattern and a few southwest inspired elements. I am in love with how it all came together!

Geometric Art {that anyone can make}

I have been digging all the use of geometric patterns in design recently... so much that I have started bringing them in to almost every room in my house! I've heard triangles are the new chevron. What do you think? {Tomorrow I'll be sharing a HUGE project and I can't wait for you to see it!} Until then, this will have to satisfy your craving for geometry. My easy, {less than $5} geometric artwork:

Find out how I made it.... {in only a few hours and for less than $5!}
