I'm kind of in love with how my Christmas decor is coming together this year. I wanted to incorporate texture and natural elements, with a modern twist. It is fun being able to combine fabrics like flannel, burlap, and fur with smooth ceramic, silver and even some sparkle! Here is my Rustic Modern Christmas mantel:
It all began with this handsome guy:
I mean, how could you walk by him and not want to take him home with you? {Darn you Target!}
Since I changed up the color of my mantel a few months ago, I wanted to contrast the gray with beautiful winter whites. Enter my next project.... faux fur trees:
I used two different kinds of craft fur to create the white trees. {You can find my full tutorial
here.} Then I decided I needed to incorporate some color and pattern... I found this cozy plaid flannel and knew it was perfect! Check out my
Flannel Scallop Tree tutorial for all the details :)
I love the natural pinecones, but on a few of them I added a little shine with silver gilding from Martha Stewart.
My final element is the fresh cedar garland... this stuff smells yummy and it is beautiful! I am so happy with the final result:
Now, if only we could actually light a fire in this gorgeous fireplace! It would be SO cozy :) What do your Christmas mantels look like this year?
