Weekend Update {With Nat & Holly}

(Sorry, no Jimmy Fallon.)

Merry Christmas! Has anyone noticed that it's been a little quiet around here? We took a nice much-needed break from blogland and enjoyed the holiday with our families and with each other! Oh yes, that included 70 degree Arizona weather. And long road trips. And lots of eating. And shopping. And 3 hours of gift-unwrapping. And Les Mis.

It. Was. Wonderful.

Rudolph & Santa Painted Ornaments

We shared this Christmas craft at Lines Across a few weeks ago... Rudolph and Santa {hand swirled} painted ornaments. My boys enjoyed making these with me, and they are perfect for kids because the paint stays contained inside the ornament!

This was so much fun to do!

Santa Yarn Letters

"He's gonna find out who's naughty or nice..." SO BE NICE! This is what I keep telling my kids, but I figured maybe they needed a visual reminder :) I decided to re-invent one of our most popular projects {LOVE yarn letters} for Christmas...

Look at the furry Santa trim! I am dying over how they turned out!

Neighbor Gift with DIY Chalkboard Tags

 Today I'm sharing what my girlfriends & neighbors are getting for Christmas! (Spoiler alert!)

This is not by any means a new idea...wrapping paper for your neighbor gifts.

But I added a few fun elements that I hope my friends will really like!

A Rustic Modern Christmas Mantel

I'm kind of in love with how my Christmas decor is coming together this year. I wanted to incorporate texture and natural elements, with a modern twist. It is fun being able to combine fabrics like flannel, burlap, and fur with smooth ceramic, silver and even some sparkle! Here is my Rustic Modern Christmas mantel:

It all began with this handsome guy:
I mean, how could you walk by him and not want to take him home with you? {Darn you Target!}

Since I changed up the color of my mantel a few months ago, I wanted to contrast the gray with beautiful winter whites. Enter my next project.... faux fur trees:

I used two different kinds of craft fur to create the white trees. {You can find my full tutorial here.} Then I decided I needed to incorporate some color and pattern... I found this cozy plaid flannel and knew it was perfect! Check out my Flannel Scallop Tree tutorial for all the details :)
I love the natural pinecones, but on a few of them I added a little shine with silver gilding from Martha Stewart.
My final element is the fresh cedar garland... this stuff smells yummy and it is beautiful! I am so happy with the final result:

Now, if only we could actually light a fire in this gorgeous fireplace! It would be SO cozy :) What do your Christmas mantels look like this year?
