Whimsical Lamp {from IKEA Socker Vase}

I gave you a little tease of this project on Monday, now I will show you how I created this fun and whimsical lamp for my daughter's room. It all started with this set of Socker Vases from my IKEA trip:

I didn't even see these beauties until I was in line checking out... a fellow blogger had a set in her cart. As soon as I saw the delicious lollipop red/coral color, I had to have them! I ran all the way back through the store to grab a set of my own :)

I was planning to use the tall, skinny vase for flowers or even to hold utensils in my kitchen, but I really wanted to find a place for the larger one in my daughter's room. I have also been on the lookout for a small lamp for the top of her dresser, but just hadn't found the right one yet...

That's when I had the idea to make the vase into a lamp! {Did you ever see my "lamp to a vase" project? Now I've got both covered!} All I needed to do was find a pre-existing lamp with a small enough base to fit through the opening at the top of the vase. Thank you Target for coming through for me!

A perfect fit!

I had originally planned to drill a small hole in the bottom of the vase for the lamp cord, but it actually worked just fine to have the cord come out at the top of the vase. The top of the lamp hides it well enough for now :)

To update the plain white lampshade, I used fabric glue and ric-rac trim around the bottom edge.

That's it! Easiest, fastest lamp makeover ever! Here she is at home on the dresser:

I love how Ruby turned out! {Yes, I just named a lamp.} Isn't she cute? Oh, and I guess my daughter is pretty darn cute herself {in that gorgeous frame from Poppyseed Projects!} I love how her room is coming along! If you missed my last post, check out the other DIY light fixtures I made.

Next project in her room: Gallery Wall. Any tips for me? Who has an amazing gallery wall they want to show off? Leave a comment with a link and we'll defintely take a look. Nat is working on one too, for her family room. Next week we will be posting a round up of some of our favorite gallery wall inspirations... yours could be one of them!

  3. Simplicity is beauty defines your idea for this vase. It is also easy to do at home and the materials can be recycled. I like how you transform a simple lamp to become pretty in your own way and taste.

  8. I love that red color - not too orange, not too red. Here's my gallery wall link: http://www.1dogwoof.com/2011/11/old-frames-new-art.html. You know how everyone says you should know the layout beforehand? Yeah, no. I used those 3M stickies and just winged it. Good luck!
