For my daughter's 3rd birthday this year, we were all about PINK and the adorable Pinkalicious book. (More on the crazy birthday week we had coming in another post...)
Sure, you can pick up some plastic wands at the dollar store, but why not give them a little sparkle and flair? I whipped up a bunch of these super easy wands for her cute little friends to take home...and cast magic PINK spells, of course! The Washi Tape made it so easy! Instead of having to hot glue ribbon all around the wand, I just wrapped the tape at a diagonal and had it covered in 30 seconds.
To make the wands, you'll need:
- wooden dowels in desired thickness - mine were 12" long and 1/4" thick - less than $1 for 10
- washi tape - got mine from Pick Your Plum
- glitter craft foam in assorted colors
- hot glue or other strong adhesive
I primed my dowels with white spray paint, but after wrapping them, decided it really didn't make much of a difference. Wrap your wand with the washi tape starting at a diagonal and working your way down. At the bottom I used a small strip to finish off the end. You could also hot glue a small piece of ribbon around the bottom to make it more sturdy. Ours are holding up just fine after a month!
Trace the shape you want for the top of the wand on the back side of the foam and cut. You'll need 2 shapes for each wand - they will be glued back to back. Stick that cute Washi Wand in between the 2 shapes and hot glue it all together! You may have to pinch and hold the edges of the stars while they dry.
Finish it off with some ribbon and you have a lovely, sparkly fairy wand! What more could a girl want?
Have you tried any Washi Tape projects yet? There is a super fun Washi Mania Par-tay going on today and the rest of this week, hosted by Live.Laugh.Rowe. Uncommon Designs and Chasing Sunshine. Go link up your washi tape creations, or just get inspired!
Need some wonderful Washi Tape of your own? Have you checked out Pick Your Plum yet? It's the first thing I check every morning! They have awesome daily deals on craft and sewing supplies, gifts, even cute clothes! They have a limited number each day and they sometimes sell out fast {which makes it all the more exciting!}. I got the washi tape I used for the wands from PYP, and here are some of the fun things I've "picked" lately!
