Snowflake Mantel & Christmas Printable

Today I am excited to share a simple decor idea for transforming your mantel area {or any wall in your home} to a stunning winterscape. Who would have guessed that the inspiration for this project hit me in the dollar store? This is what I found:

Large felt snowflakes! I had been thinking about trying something with felt & snowflakes but I'm too lazy to cut them all out.... hmmm.... could this work? I grabbed everything they had left in stock :) The only other tools I used were scissors and double-stick tape, (a much better alternative than thumbtacks... no holes to fill in later!) I got to work, and about an hour after I started, here is what I had come up with:

Pretty amazing, right? I can't believe how much it changes the entire look of my mantel! It's all the goodness of a stencil, with a beautiful lace pattern and element of texture too. {And without the messy paint!} Here's a closeup shot.... I can't wait to show you how I did it :)

I started out by laying out my pattern and figuring out how many snowflakes I would need to complete one row. Then I measured how much of a gap I needed to leave on each side of my pattern (I'd finish the edges last after the center of the pattern was complete.) Then I just turned my first snowflake over, attached several pieces of double-stick tape (approx. 6-8 pieces per snowflake) and adhered it to the wall.

Just make sure to match your edges up carefully to create a consistent pattern... in this case, I had to match the ends to create a 4-sided star shape (above). Here is my wall after the first row and a half is complete! It didn't take long until the center was all filled in:

Once the center part of the design was finished, I just had to line up my snowflakes, trace the edges with a pencil, and cut them to fit.

Pretty soon, the wall was completely filled in and I was more than happy with the result!

As a renter, it can be challenging to find ways to make a dramatic impact in your home (when you can't put lots of holes in the wall, change the paint, etc.) That is one reason I love this project! It was super easy to install, it's rental-friendly, and it cost less than $15! {I ended up using exactly 14 snowflakes... they are from the Dollar Tree by the way, for those of you who want to go raid your local store...}
